What are our aims?

Fostering an understanding of the human mind and psyche through studying psychological theories past and present. Appreciation of the place of evidence to support psychological perspectives and theories. Be able to evaluate various 'perspectives' often encountering aspects that are irreconcilable.

What we do in KS5

The OCR Psychology syllabus modules studied are...

How do we do it?

In addition to classroon teaching situations, groupwork and discussions feature heavily in our successfull teaching approach. A variety of topics are included in the modules studied...

How is my work assessed?

Classwork and progress are assessed in two ways: 1. Summatively- this means that your units will be assessed according to the AQA criteria, and marked against national standards. These assessments will also be accompanied by homework essays, which will be marked in the same way. 2. Formatively. Students will be given detailed analysis of where they need to improve and what they need to do in order to raise their standards.

The final examinations are 1 1/2 hour for modules 1 & 2 and contribute 50% marks toward AS or 25% marks toward A2 level.
For modules 3 & 4 the duration is 2 hours for each examination and contribute 25% of A2 level marks.

What skills will I develop?

Sifting through different data and information Identifying and addressing key issues. Weighing up pros and cons.  Seeing different approaches to the same problem, drawing out general principles. 
Having a practical approach. Using statistics. Interpreting data. 
Understanding probability.

Will this course suit me?

Interest in people and their behaviour. To be interested in patterns of human behaviour is essential if you are to be stimulated and motivated by your Psychology course. Try to see how material from the course can be applied to your everyday life. When you are particularly interested in an issue, would you ask your teacher for advice on further reading. Willingness to participate
In order to make the most of any discussions that take place you must listen to others, as well as offer your own ideas.

Where can it lead?

Careers are many and varied and include; clinical psychology, criminal psychological, educational psychology, counselling psychology and forensic psychology.
