Who are we?

Mr A Downs (Head of PAL)
All form tutors in years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.

What are our aims?

PAL (Preparation for Adult Life) includes Citizenship (learning about our rights and our responsibilities), PSHEE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education), SRE (Sex and Relationships Education), Careers Education and Work-Related Learning.
Studying these things helps prepare us for the realities of life in Britain in the twenty-first century.

What qualification can we get?

At the start of Year 9, pupils will undertake the coursework for their GCSE Humanities short course, which they will take at the end of Year 9. This coursework is on a Citizenship topic and is worth 25% of the GCSE Humanities grade.

How do we learn in PAL?

In Years 7, 8 and 9, tutors teach their tutor groups for one lesson a week.
In all year groups, including Years 10 and 11, there are PAL Days, when outside experts deliver sessions on particular topics such as road safety, careers and drugs education. Tutors accompany their tutor groups on these days.

How can I get careers information?

There is a Careers section in the Upper School Library with lots of up-to-date books.
Marion Baker is our Connexions Adviser. She holds Careers interviews with most Year 11 pupils.
The local Connexions office is on Bow Road, opposite Bow Road tube station.
