How do we do it?
KS3
Design and make projects are central to our courses. They are supported with basic skills and theory input.
KS4
At least 2 projects are pursued in each year giving a broad base of experience. A wide range of techniques and skills are encouraged throughout the projects which, in turn, are chosen to allow diversity.
KS5
Similar to the KS4 approach but with increasingly a focus on independance of study and research so that breadth of undersatnding and committment can be developed.
How is my work assessed?
KS3
Students are assessed throughout each of the specialisms and a final NC level is calculated from their achievement throughout the year.
KS4
The Btec course allows assessment on coursework achievement only. The work is monitored and assessed throughout leading to either Pass. Merit or Distinction levels of success. These 3 levels are counted as 2 x C, 2 x B or 2 x A respectively.
KS5
Btec course grades are assessed by coursework only.
What skills will I develop?
The structure of the course allows you to develop your interests and gain a broad foundation, and it introduces you to new areas, such as working with fashion design, interactive media or photography briefs.
Will this course suit me?
You need an interest in the visual world and the way that artists and designers have fashioned it. A desire to use your creative and artistic skill and imagination in meaningful and practical projects. The ability to start a project and fiollow it through for personal interest not just as a school based task.
Where can it lead?
Following completion of the BTEC First Certificate in Art and Design, successful candidates would be able to enter initial employment, at a junior level, in such areas as graphic or interior designing, or web design. It is possible for you to progress further to the BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design, or to move on to a higher level qualification such as a Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Art and Design specialising in your preferred field, such as photography, textiles or fashion and clothing.
