Future development of Raine's Foundation School
Under the auspices of the Government's Building Schools for the Future program Raine's is delighted to announce plans to develop it's Upper School site.
Planning has taken a considerable time with many and various proposals being offered over a number of years. Maximising, what is, a limited amount of space has been a challenging task for the architects and engineers. Particular concern has been the sympathetic conversion and use of the old listed building so characteristic of Raine's' heritage.
We now feel, and, have had this supported during Public Consultation Meetings that this has been achieved. We are now looking forward to the development and, subsequently, working with our students in a new and exciting enviroment.
What are our plans?
- Light, welcoming, calming, feeling, open, fresh, space
- These feelings will spread through to new and refurbished areas
- North facing roof lights allow daylight in without heat or glare from the sun
- The natural daylight reduces the need for artificial lighting, saving energy for the school.
These are the themes that have guided the architectural concepts upon which our new school has been designed. By careful utilisatiion of existing space and that created with the new four storey building a larger and more spacious facility has been developed, whilst still essentially remaining within the existing building's 'footprint'.
The building program will commence this Summer. A most comprehensive and well resourced array of temporary classrooms have been commissioned to allow uninterupted education provision for all our students. Years 7, 8 and 9 will remain on the Lower School site with years 10, 11 and the sixth form based at the Upper School. Through out the negotiation of this new project 'zero disruption' to educational matters has been the prime consideration and we are confident that this will be achieved.
